Data Collection

Every Word by Word app teaches one language, and they all handle data the same way:

• No Account: There is no registration and no sign-in. We never ask for a name, an email address or a phone number
• Progress Stays Local: Which topics you have opened, which words you have worked through and your settings are stored on your device only
• Downloaded Content: Words, definitions and recordings are downloaded from our server. The request carries the language you are studying and a marker of what you already have, and nothing that identifies you or your device

How Your Data Is Used

The data described above is used for one purpose only: to deliver the word sets you study and to remember where you left off. It is not profiled, sold or shared for marketing.

Analytics

Apple gives every developer anonymous, aggregated statistics about downloads and crashes, and those reach us whatever we do. Beyond that, the app itself contains no analytics or tracking library. Should that change, this page changes with it, and the date at the bottom tells you when it last did.

Device Permissions and Network

• Network Access: Needed to download the word sets and their audio. The first launch requires a connection
• Storage: Used to keep the downloaded material and your progress on the device

Data Retention

Because your progress lives on your device, it stays there until you delete the app, and deleting the app removes it. We hold nothing to return to you and nothing to delete on request, because we never received it.

Game Center

The app is connected to Apple Game Center for points and a leaderboard. If you are signed in to Game Center, your score is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy; we receive no personal data from it. If you are not signed in, the app works exactly as it does otherwise.

Children's Privacy

Word by Word is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new privacy policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date below.
