Talkscreen for iPhone and Android

What you hear stays on your phone: Talkscreen turns the speech around you into captions on your device. The app does not send your audio or your captions off your phone.

What We Collect

Talkscreen has no accounts. It sends usage statistics and error reports to Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics; they do not include your audio or your captions. See the Firebase Privacy and Security policy.

The Microphone

The app asks for the microphone so it can caption the speech around you. It listens only while you have pressed Listen, and the audio goes straight to the speech model on your phone. Talkscreen does not keep recordings: only the text it produces is saved.

Speech Recognition On Your Device

Speech is recognized by a model that runs on your phone. Our other speech apps use the same model, so it is downloaded once and shared between them:

  • On iPhone: The model files are kept in a storage area shared by our apps. Your captions are not kept there; they stay in Talkscreen's own storage.
  • On Android: If another of our apps already has the model, Talkscreen may hand the audio to that app on your phone to be recognized and receive the text back. The audio stays on your device, and only our own apps signed with our key can take part in this exchange. In the same way, our other apps may use the copy of the model that Talkscreen holds.

Network Use

The app downloads its speech model from botforge.pro or spb.apakabar.fm. That request carries no audio and no captions. Once the model is on your phone, captions work without a connection.

What Stays On Your Device

The captions history and your settings, such as the chosen language, are kept on your device and are not sent to us. Clearing the history in the app deletes it, and deleting the app removes the history and settings from your phone.
