Your voice stays on your phone: Speak Shakespeare listens to you read, but the listening and the judging both happen on your device. We do not collect, store off-device, transmit, or share any personal data.

The app asks for the microphone because the exercise is reading a line of the sonnet aloud: it has to hear you to mark each word. Speech recognition runs on your device, on a model downloaded to it, so what you say is never sent to us or to any other service.
Your takes are kept so you can hear yourself back: one audio file per piece of the poem, together with what the recogniser made of it and how far through the book you are. All of it is stored locally and only locally. Starting a sonnet over inside the app deletes the recordings kept for that exercise, and deleting the app removes everything at once.
The app ships without the heavy parts. On first launch it downloads the speech recognition model and the narrator's recordings from our own servers, botforge.pro and spb.apakabar.fm, which hold the same files so that one is reachable when the other is not. Those requests fetch files and say nothing about you. Once the download is done the drill runs offline.
