QuickCaptions

Your Video Stays On Your Phone: QuickCaptions transcribes, translates, cuts and captions your video entirely on your device. There are no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. The only thing the app ever downloads is the models it needs — your video, its transcript and its translations are never uploaded anywhere.

What We Collect

Nothing. QuickCaptions:

  • Does not collect any personal data
  • Has no accounts and no sign-in
  • Does not use analytics, tracking or advertising
  • Contains no third-party SDKs that collect data
  • Never uploads your videos, audio or transcripts

How Your Video Is Processed

Everything the app does to a clip happens on your device:

  • Speech recognition: The audio is transcribed by a model running locally on your phone. No audio is sent to a server, ours or anyone else's
  • Translation: If you translate the captions, that also runs locally, on a second model. The text of your clip is not sent anywhere to be translated
  • Captions and editing: Captions are built and pauses are cut locally
  • Export: The finished video is rendered on your device. Where it goes next is your choice — the system share sheet hands it to whichever app you pick, and what happens to it there is governed by that app's privacy policy

The One Network Request

Speech recognition needs a model that is too large to ship inside the app, so on first launch QuickCaptions downloads it from our server at botforge.pro. This is a plain file download:

  • Nothing is sent up: The request carries no video, no audio, no transcript and no identifier of you or your device
  • Server logs: Like any web request, it reaches our server with an IP address and a timestamp in the standard access log. We do not use these logs to build a profile of you and we do not connect them to anything else
  • Once only: The model is cached on your device. After it is downloaded the app works without a network connection

Device Permissions

QuickCaptions asks for these permissions, each only when you use the feature that needs it:

  • Camera and Microphone: To record a clip inside the app. The recording is written straight to the app's own storage on your device
  • Photos: Picking a clip goes through the iOS photo picker, which hands the app the one video you chose and nothing else — the app never gets to browse your library. Saving a finished video to Photos asks for permission to add it

You can review or revoke any of these in iOS Settings at any time.

Data Storage & Deletion

Your clips, their transcripts and your settings are stored locally on your device only:

  • Local only: Nothing is synced to a cloud service, ours or otherwise
  • Delete a clip: Deleting it in the app removes the video and its transcript from your device
  • Delete everything: Uninstalling the app removes all of it, including the downloaded model

Your Rights

We hold no data about you, so there is nothing for us to hand over, correct or delete on request. Everything the app produces is on your device and under your control: delete a clip, or delete the app, and it is gone.

Third-Party Services

QuickCaptions uses no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting services. Both models it uses — one for speech recognition, one for translation — are open-source models released under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0, credited in the app's Licenses screen. They run on your device and talk to nothing.

Children's Privacy

QuickCaptions is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
