Country Count

Privacy First: Country Count processes all your photos locally on your device. Your location history and travel data never leave your phone. We only collect anonymous crash reports and usage statistics to improve the app.

What We Access

Country Count accesses your photo library to read location metadata (GPS coordinates) from your photos. Here's what you should know:

Photo Metadata Only: We read GPS coordinates and timestamps from your photos to determine where they were taken
No Photo Upload: Your actual photos are never uploaded or transmitted anywhere
Local Processing: All scanning, clustering, and analysis happens entirely on your device
Local Storage: Your travel history and country statistics are stored locally in the app's database on your device
Manual Overrides: Any changes you make (like marking a country as visited or setting residency status) are stored locally

Geocoding

To convert GPS coordinates into country and city names, Country Count uses Apple's built-in geocoding service (CLGeocoder):

System API: Geocoding requests go through Apple's standard iOS API, not our servers
Apple's Privacy: These requests are subject to Apple's privacy policy
Cached Results: Country and city names are cached locally to minimize API requests

Analytics & Crash Reporting

To improve app stability and understand usage patterns, we use Firebase services:

Firebase Analytics: Collects anonymous usage statistics (e.g., which features are used, app performance metrics)
Firebase Crashlytics: Collects crash reports to help us fix bugs and improve stability
No Personal Data: Analytics data does not include your location history, photos, or personal travel information
Anonymous: This data is anonymized and cannot be linked to you personally

Device Permissions

Country Count requires the following permission:

Photo Library (Read Only): Required to scan photo metadata and determine locations. We only read location data — we never modify or delete your photos

Data Storage & Deletion

Your data is under your control:

Local Only: All your travel history data is stored locally on your device
Easy Deletion: Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data
No Account Required: Country Count works without any account or registration
No Cloud Sync: Your data is not synced to any cloud service

Your Rights

Since all your personal data is stored locally on your device:

Full Control: You have complete control over your data at all times
Data Deletion: Simply uninstall the app to delete all data
Permission Revocation: You can revoke photo library access in iOS Settings at any time

Third-Party Services

Country Count uses the following third-party services:

Apple CLGeocoder: iOS system service for converting coordinates to place names. Subject to Apple Privacy Policy
Firebase Analytics: For anonymous usage statistics. Subject to Firebase Privacy Policy
Firebase Crashlytics: For crash reporting. Subject to Firebase Privacy Policy

Children's Privacy

Country Count is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new privacy policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date below.
